Money is a recurring game mechanic in the ToeJam & Earl series, used as currency on Earth in exchange for items or services.

A single unit of money is referred to as a buck (plural: bucks).

Appearances[]

ToeJam & Earl[]

Buck-TJ&E

A buck on the ground in ToeJam & Earl

In the first game, the player character primarily finds bucks discarded on the ground in random locations around Earth. Exploring an entire level will gain you the most bucks.

Bucks can also be found in presents - the Extra Buck will give you a single buck, and the Jackpot will give you five bucks.

ToeJam and/or Earl can exchange bucks for the services of friendly Earthlings which can greatly aid your survival. They can also be exchanged for presents and food at a mailbox.

ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron[]

The game takes place on Funkotron, where bucks are not currency. However money has been brought along with the invading Earthlings. Money is sometimes dropped by Earthlings that the player character has trapped in jars. Money can also be found by shaking it out of trees and bushes. This money can then be used in coin meters for additonal items/powerups.

ToeJam & Earl III: Mission to Earth[]

Bucks are used much as the same as previous games.

Toejam has Good Money Luck, while GeekJam has Super Money Luck.

ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove[]

Bucks can be obtained by finding them in presents, picking them up from the ground, shaken out of vegetation and houses, won in games of dice with Cosplay Nerds, or given away by backer characters.

This game is the first to introduce denominations of money, in that 100 cents make up a whole buck. Whilst most services require whole bucks, coin meters use cents instead of whole bucks. Lewanda's special ability is that she can use coin meters for free.

Some Earthlings, such as moles and Clipboard Volunteers, can steal some of your bucks. However 'popping' them will get your money back.
